What is Safeguarding in education?

Safeguarding in education is all about creating a safe and supportive environment for children and young people. It goes beyond physical safety and encompasses their emotional and mental wellbeing too.

All schools, colleges, academies and any other type of education institution, have a legal duty to safeguard all students. This means having clear policies and procedures in place to identify any potential harm, whether it's abuse, neglect, bullying, or online threats.

But safeguarding isn't just about reacting to problems. It's also about proactive measures.

This includes:

- Teaching children about healthy relationships and how to stay safe online

- Training staff to recognise signs of abuse and neglect

- Creating a culture of open communication where students feel comfortable speaking up about concerns

- Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. Everyone who works in education has a role to play, from teachers and support staff to        leaders and governors. By working together, we can help create a safe space where all children can thrive.
